Cobh Maritime Song Festival

Dear friends,

The organizers of the  Cobh Maritime Song Festival are at the moment awaiting funding decisions for 2010.  We expect to have news from funders in February, and will at that time inform you as to when and whether our festival will go ahead this year.

Once again this is due to the current challenges faced during this economic downturn.  We hope to have an update shortly and appreciate your interest and patience as we look towards the future.
Wishing you all the best in 2010.

Wishing you all the best in 2010.

Let's Hear it for our Friends! 2009/08/24 19:51

Have a look at this new video just posted on Youtube.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KFBDxQ5Xd3s

Created by Banana Boat and Eleanor McEvoy in Poland earlier this year.  This is one of Eleanor's songs and we love it and think its the perfect time for such a composition.

Banana Boat and Eleanor McEvoy met initially at the Cobh Maritime Song Festival a few years back and Banana Boat invited Eleanor to Euro Shanties festival in Katowice, Poland in 2008 - this recording is a direct result of her visit and their friendship.

Its lovely to see how the international connections can be made through our meetings.  "Little Look" is now in the top 50 on radio 3 in Poland and getting more airplay everyday.  We hope it will be a big hit for all the musicians!  Best of luck!

The Passing of Johnny Collins 2009/08/24 18:42
Cobh Maritime Song Festival morns the loss of the great Johnny Collins.  Johnny died in Gdansk, Poland in early July.  His funeral took place in London on 13 August 2009.  It was a most moving experience - Johnny was sent off with the help of 150+ voices of his friends, family and colleagues, singing at full volume.  A most powerful energy, greater than can be imagined.  It was an honour to be present for such a commemoration.  We will miss Johnny's timber rattling tones here in Sirius, as we know will many of our friends round the world.  It was an honour to know this great man.

Thanks for another great year! 2008/06/12 17:31

The festival has come to a close but plans have already begun brewing for next year - so please TELL YOUR FRIENDS, sign the guest book and tell us what you thought and keep checking the site for more information.

I hope in the next edition of the festival that you will have more new experiences, meet more new people from around the world and just basically come and enjoy yourselves here in Cobh.  We may be a small town - but we've HUGE potential ;-)

Sláinte for now
